These FAQs are here to help you find the information you need, when you need it, but you can always contact AskBU if you’d like to talk to someone in person, by phone or email, or if you have feedback about the FAQs.
Thank you for your email. I am sorry to learn of the ongoing issues you are experiencing.
We have a robust Student Agreement which all students sign when they enrol; specifically clause 18 reminds students that as a member of BU’s community, they must conduct themselves with regard to our good name and reputation. We take student behaviour very seriously recognise that anti-social behaviour not only damages Bournemouth University’s reputation but also impacts upon the relationship between students and the local community.
Bournemouth University and the Students’ Union maintain a continued team approach with Dorset Police and BCP Council to address issues around noise and anti-social behaviour. For this approach to work effectively, BCP council should be contacted regarding noise and and/or anti-social behaviour in the first instance, you can visit their website for further information: Domestic noise complaints or Antisocial behaviour. If there is evidence of a potential Statutory Noise Nuisance, Environmental Health can monitor and potentially issue Noise Abatement Notices. BPC Environmental Health can be contacted on 01202 123789 or email environmental.health@bcpcouncil.gov.uk.
If you are experiencing a disturbance late at night, BCP Out of Ours Service can be contacted on 0800 506 050. For urgent issues which may constitute a criminal offence, please call Dorset Police on 101.
Under our team approach, issues will be brought to the University’s attention as appropriate by Dorset Police or BCP Council, which we can then consider under our Student Disciplinary Procedure. BU are only able to take action under our disciplinary procedure where we are provided with clear evidence linking individually named and identified students enrolled at BU with an antisocial event (or other activity subject to complaint).
We would also highlight to you that there are two other independent Universities within the BCP conurbation; Arts University Bournemouth and AECC University College, along with other educational providers such as the Bournemouth & Poole College and language schools, who will have their own policy and procedures in place. You may wish to contact them direct if the individuals concerned are potentially students at another establishment.
If you have any further enquiries please contact us.
